Typically used for divination after tossing coins, large hexagram numbers on facing pages facilitate searching for a particular hexagram whether flipping forward or back. These large numbers were set in different sizes because symmetry on facing pages seemed inappropriate for "the book of changes." Each spread shows all the text for a single hexagram allowing Daoist practitioners to lay the book open to complete hexagram for daily astrological contemplation as well.
